Marlon should own the entire insurance company. After calling about 7+ insurance carriers and having them quote DOUBLE than what Marlon got me, I lost faith in all insurance companies. Now, as of today – I lost faith in all insurance companies EXCEPT one. This one. Marlon completed the entire process in less than 30 min – usually it takes that long for most companies to pick up their phone. Right off the bat, he demonstrated expert communication and listening skills. I never called initally with high hopes, but to have all my issues addressed that fast AND get a price TWICE as good, is remarkable to me. Its borderline unbelievable. I am still elated, as I write this review with a “it’s too good to be true” feeling, but hey, maybe santa is real and he works at Calhan Auto Insurance. Thats what my new insurance cards say. Thanks again Marlon!

Cameron helped me get the best price. He’s very well spoken, very knowledgeable and precise. We all hate having to talk to sales reps in life but he made it a breeze. Will be going back to this company in the future and recommending to friends and family because they hire people that make getting help so much easier and that goes a long way with me and my hard earned money. Thankyou Cameron!

Colorado Auto · Rate Overview
Colorado Auto Insurance Rate Overview (2024–2026 Quote Data)
This Colorado auto report summarizes 4,438 first-party auto insurance quotes produced through our licensed brokerage, covering 52 counties and 317 ZIP codes. The goal is simple: help drivers compare insurance rates by county, and understand how liability insurance, full coverage, and other insurance types can shift monthly price outcomes.
Across the counties shown on this page, quote activity is concentrated in El Paso, Denver, Pueblo, Arapahoe, and Adams. In higher-density areas, the average premium tends to run higher and the carrier spread can be wider — because underwriting outcomes vary by driver, vehicle insurance details, violations, accidents, credit (where permitted), and coverage choices like deductible levels.
A key takeaway from this state dataset is that “county averages” are best used as guidance, not a promise of the cheapest price. If you’re shopping for insurance auto options (liability only, full coverage, broad form, or non-owners policies), the fastest path is still a fresh insurance quote so you can compare insurance companies side by side.
What this page is: real quote outcomes organized by county so you can compare rates month to month. What this page is not: a guaranteed rate or a mutual carrier filing summary — it reflects what we observed in live quoting and policy service records.

ZIP Codes
This page is built from first-party quote records between 2024 and 2026. Quotes were assigned to counties using the garaging ZIP code captured during the quoting process. County sections summarize observed monthly rates across coverage selections (liability insurance, full coverage, broad form, and other policies when present).
Average monthly premium reflects the mean monthly premium in that county’s quote set for the period shown. Carrier price spread reflects the lowest and highest observed monthly premium in that county dataset. The spread can be large because underwriting eligibility, driver history (DUI, violations, accidents), SR-22 insurance needs, and vehicle factors can change outcomes sharply.
Because rates can change by month and the mix of drivers in each county can differ, these results are best used as comparison resources. For an exact estimate, a new insurance quote is still required — online or by phone.
Coverage types tracked: liability only, full coverage (comp + collision), broad form, and non-owners/other policies where present in the dataset.

Frequently Asked Questions — Colorado Auto Insurance
What does auto insurance actually cost in Colorado based on real sold policies?
Our Colorado dataset is the largest in our entire multi-state series — 1,950 auto policies across 49 counties from 2024–2025. The statewide average monthly premium is $162.09, with a median of $123.96. The gap between mean and median is significant: a small number of high-premium outlier policies (violations, SR-22, financed full coverage) pull the average up, while the median better reflects what most Colorado drivers in our book actually pay. Individual premiums range from $6.34 (a prorated short-term policy) to $1,129.71 (a complex high-risk full coverage situation in El Paso County). El Paso County (Colorado Springs) alone accounts for 898 policies at an average of $174.27 — our most statistically reliable county benchmark by far. Delta County on the Western Slope averaged just $37.73 across 7 policies — Colorado’s most affordable multi-policy market in our data.
What is broad form auto insurance in Colorado, and who should get it?
Colorado is one of very few states that widely allows broad form (named operator) auto insurance — a policy that covers a specific named driver on any vehicle they operate, rather than insuring a particular vehicle. It does not cover the vehicle itself, only the driver’s liability exposure. In our Colorado dataset, 237 of 1,950 auto policies — 12.2% — are broad form, the highest concentration of this product in any state in our multi-state series. Broad form is primarily used for two situations: SR-22 compliance (proving financial responsibility after a license suspension or DUI/DWAI without owning a vehicle) and general compliance coverage for drivers between vehicles. It’s typically more affordable per month than standard liability because there’s no vehicle-specific rating involved. Dairyland and National General are our primary broad form carriers in Colorado. If you need to reinstate your Colorado license but don’t own a car, broad form is often the fastest and most cost-effective path.
Why is auto insurance more expensive in Colorado than in many neighboring states?
Colorado consistently ranks in the top 15–20 most expensive states nationally for auto insurance, driven by several structural factors that don’t apply to neighboring Utah, Wyoming, or Kansas. Hail damage is the single largest driver — the Colorado Front Range sits in one of the most hail-active corridors in the country, generating more comprehensive claims per driver than most other inland states; after particularly severe storm seasons, comprehensive premiums statewide often increase. Vehicle theft surged significantly in Colorado in recent years, with dramatic increases in Kia/Hyundai thefts in the Denver metro pushing comprehensive rates higher for many drivers. Rapid population growth has outpaced Colorado’s road infrastructure, increasing traffic density and accident frequency in the Denver metro and Front Range corridor. Mountain driving conditions — ice, altitude, narrow roads — generate more single-vehicle accidents than flat neighboring states. Together, these factors put Colorado firmly in the expensive tier despite being a landlocked, non-coastal state.
What are Colorado’s minimum auto insurance requirements?
Colorado requires 25/50/15 liability coverage: $25,000 per person for bodily injury, $50,000 per accident, and $15,000 for property damage. Colorado is a tort (at-fault) state with no mandatory PIP. Insurers are required to offer Medical Payments (MedPay) coverage — you must decline it in writing if you don’t want it. Uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage must be offered and can be rejected in writing, but Colorado’s uninsured driver rate is meaningful enough that keeping UM/UIM is generally advisable. The $15,000 property damage minimum is notably low — a single at-fault accident involving a newer vehicle can easily exceed this threshold, leaving you personally liable for the difference. Most insurance advisors recommend carrying at least $50,000 in property damage coverage for reasonable protection.
What is a DWAI in Colorado, and does it trigger SR-22?
Colorado’s DWAI (Driving While Ability Impaired) is a lower-threshold impaired driving charge — it applies at a BAC of 0.05 to 0.079%, below the standard 0.08% DUI threshold. A DWAI is a separate charge from DUI, but it can still trigger an SR-22 requirement and license points consequences. Both DUI and DWAI — along with reckless driving, driving uninsured in an accident, and certain license suspension events — trigger Colorado’s SR-22 requirement, which is typically 3 years from the date of license reinstatement. Colorado also uses an SR-22A for some situations involving drivers with a history of coverage lapses — the SR-22A requires prepaid coverage rather than a standard monthly policy. All six of our main Colorado carriers (Progressive, Bristol West, Mendota, National General, Dairyland, The General) file Colorado SR-22 electronically with the Colorado Division of Motor Vehicles.
How much cheaper is auto insurance in rural Colorado compared to the Front Range?
The rural-urban gap in our Colorado data is substantial. Arapahoe County (Aurora/Centennial) averaged $208.79 and Broomfield averaged $334.67, while Western Slope counties tell a completely different story: Delta County averaged just $37.73 across 7 policies, Montrose came in at $53.05, and Chaffee County averaged $63.08. Fremont County (Cañon City) averaged $92.74 across 27 policies — a solid rural benchmark. The gap between the most expensive Front Range suburb and the most affordable Western Slope county exceeds 8x in our data. Factors driving this: higher vehicle values and more full coverage profiles on the Front Range, greater traffic density and accident frequency, higher theft rates, and more expensive auto repair labor compared to rural Colorado shops. The mountain resort counties (Summit, Eagle, Grand) occupy a middle tier — moderately priced for the coverage type mix we’re writing there.
Which carriers does A Plus Insurance use for Colorado, and why does it matter?
Our Colorado book runs through eight carriers. Progressive leads with 846 policies (43%) covering the broadest range from standard full coverage to high-risk and broad form. Bristol West handles 427 policies (22%), specializing in Colorado’s non-standard and high-risk liability market — drivers declined by standard carriers. Mendota covers 368 policies (19%), competitive for Colorado violations, SR-22, and high-risk profiles. National General (125 policies) and Dairyland (123 policies) both excel in broad form, non-owners, and compliance coverage. The General (48 policies) handles situations where other carriers decline. Falcon and Geico fill specific niches. This carrier depth matters: a driver quoted only through Progressive might pay $40–$80/month more than what Bristol West or Mendota offers for the same risk profile — or vice versa. Comparing across all eight through a single call is the most efficient way to find your best Colorado rate.
Is Colorado Springs (El Paso County) more expensive for insurance than Denver?
In our dataset, El Paso County (Colorado Springs) averaged $174.27 across 898 policies, modestly above Denver County’s $160.83 average across 184 policies. However, context matters significantly here. El Paso’s 898-policy dataset includes the full spectrum of coverage types and risk profiles — from Fort Carson enlisted soldiers on bare minimum liability to homeowners with financed full coverage vehicles. Denver’s 184-policy book has a different coverage mix that skews somewhat toward its urban non-owners and liability segment. For standard full coverage on a comparable vehicle with a clean record, Denver’s premium environment is typically comparable to or slightly above Colorado Springs. The suburbs surrounding each city tell a different story: Arapahoe County (Aurora/Denver southeast) averaged $208.79, well above Denver proper — reflecting newer vehicles and full coverage dominance in those southeastern suburbs.
