Ohio Liability Insurance – What are the State Minimum Requirements?
All States require different coverages to make drivers legal on the road. Ohio requires drivers to carry liability limits of at least $25,000 for bodily injury protection, up to $50,000 for each accident, and $25,000 for property damage. Drivers are able to increase their liability limit for greater coverage if desired. It is advised that you match your liability limits to your assets so that you are able to cover any damages you are liable for in the event of an At Fault Accident. If your liability limits are not sufficient to cover the damages, you could be at risk of being sued by the other party.

How Much Does Ohio liability insurance cost with violations?
Prices for liability Insurance will vary based on several factors such as the driver, location, type of vehicle, and the insured’s driving record. Drivers who have no violations on their record will pay the least amount in auto insurance because they are considered low-risk, and favorable for Insurance companies.
If you have been convicted of a major, or even minor violation such as a speeding ticket, your insurance premiums will likely increase as a result. Minor violations will stay on your driving record for 3 years, while major violations will stay on your record for 5 years. Once the violations have completely fallen off your record, your insurance prices will start to decrease. Check below to see the low-end cost vs. high-end cost for liability insurance in Ohio with violations.

Ohio Liability Insurance State Minimum Requirements
Leasing a car and financing a car in Ohio are two different things, which will require different coverages aside from the Ohio Minimum Liability requirements. If you are leasing a vehicle, most financial leasing companies require liability limits of at least 50/100/50 and full coverage which would include Comprehensive and Collision coverage. Its advised to check with the leasing company to make sure you have the right requirements, as all will vary on their requirements.
If you are financing a vehicle, most lenders will require you to carry full coverage on your vehicle, like leasing, but the liability limits can be kept at the State Minimum Required, instead of having to increase those. Lenders may not want you to exceed a $500 deductible for Comprehensive and Collision, while others will allow you to go as high as $1000 deductibles. Check with your lender for any stipulations to ensure you are getting the correct coverage.
Ohio Liability Insurance – Penalties for Driving without Auto Insurance
Driving without Insurance in Ohio could lead to fines, penalties and license suspension. Even more importantly, if you are found At Fault in an accident without insurance, you would be financially responsible for medical expenses and property damage to the other driver involved in the accident. If you do not have at least liability insurance, you may risk the possibility of a law suite.
For first-offense drivers without insurance, your license will be suspended until all requirements are met. There is a $160 restoration fee for vehicle registration and plates or plates and registration could be confiscated for 30 days.
For second-offense drivers your license will be suspended for a year, a $360 restoration fee will be applied or registration and plates will be confiscated for 60 days, and fines will be decided by the court.
For third-time offenses, driver’s license will be suspended for at least 3 years, a $660 restoration fee or 5-year suspension of registration and plates may apply. Additional fees will be determined by the court.

Ohio Liability Insurance – What can Increase my Car Insurance Rate?
Have you had your Insurance policy increase in price and you are not understanding why? There are a few reasons why your cost of insurance could have gone up. Of course, if you add vehicles or change coverages on your policy, it will likely increase your premium. In most cases if you add an additional driver to the policy it will increase, in some cases it may go down if you are married and the other driver has an excellent driving record. Other factors that will negatively impact your insurance premium are traffic violations and Accidents.
