STATE REQUIREMENTS MOTORCYCLE INSURANCE IN KANSAS

Is insurance on a motorcycle expensive? If you keep your coverage to a bare minimum…it might not be expensive at all.

At the very least however, make sure your insurance meets the state requirements.

In Kansas, Motorcycle owners are required to purchase at least the minimum liability limits of:

$25,000 per person for bodily injury, up to $50,000 per accident, and $10,000 for property damage.

Of course, you can choose to alter your liability coverage and opt for higher limits if desired! Most homeowners consider liability limits of at least 100/300/100 because you want to make sure that you are properly covered in the event of an accident. Your liability will cover for what you are liable for or (At Fault), so having the appropriate coverages are important.

COST FOR MOTORCYCLE INSURANCE (FULL COVERAGE) IN KANSAS

But what if you need more than the liability limits…is insurance on a motorcycle expensive then?

How much is motorcycle Insurance per month, on average, for full coverage?

The cost will vary upon several rating factors, but the type of coverage being a main factor. If you are purchasing a brand new bike, or financing, of course you will want your bike to be covered against anything that should happen, right?

If you purchase full coverage, that will consist of Comprehensive (theft, fire, vandalism, glass), and Collision (impact with another object/vehicle). This will protect your bike from just about any instance that were to occur.

You can also add additional coverages such as Roadside/Trip Interruption, and Rental Reimbursement. Yes it might be more expensive than liability only, but the average cost for full coverage on a Motorcycle is still generally much cheaper than car insurance.

MOTORCYCLE SAFETY TIPS IN KANSAS

Looking for tips to keep yourself and others safe on the road? We recommend starting off by checking your motorcycle before each trip. This included checking your tires, blinkers and headlights before hitting the pavement.

Make sure you know what the weather forecast is so you aren’t caught out in the middle of bad weather. Always practice proper driving etiquette by safely passing, using turn signals, and leaving at least 3 car lengths between you and the other driver on the road.

Make sure to carry the proper Information with you, such as Registration, License and Insurance documents in the event you get pulled over. We recommend you wear your Motorcycle gear such as boots, leather jacket, and safety gloves.

As you can see, safety is about preparing ahead of time for an accident.

CHEAPEST MOTORCYCLE INSURANCE (BY CITY) IN KANSAS

Why does your location matter when it comes to Insurance prices? If an area is heavily populated, that generally means more drivers on the road, and more accidents. The cost of Insurance will be higher in the heavily populated towns and cities because of this fact.

Generally, the more accidents there are, means more claims. The more claims made means more money Insurance companies are paying out to their insureds.

If Insurance companies pay out a large amount one year, they may have to increase their prices to be able to afford the claims. Keep the Insurance prices down for every one by driving safe, and avoiding accidents.

RATING FACTORS FOR MOTORCYCLE INSURANCE IN KANSAS

Rating factors are used to determine a risk, or the Insured, by Insurance companies. Insurance companies need to determine if the customer they are going to be insuring will be low risk (more favourable) and higher risk.

Some factors may include; Gender, Age, Location, Driving Experience/History, Coverages, etc.

If you are an experienced driver, with no driving violations your cost for Insurance will likely be very cheap! Check with the Insurance provider you are with to see if they offer discounts for approved safety courses.

If you have had an accident, or violation you may be able to get the points reduced by completing an approved course. On Average, an At Fault Accident can raise your insurance by over $100 each month!

If you can take a class to get that removed, you will save thousands on your Insurance premium over the years, until that accident falls off your record.

HOW DO YOU GET A MOTORCYCLE LICENSE IN KANSAS?

In Kansas, you must be at least 14 years old to apply for a Motorcycle permit, which is valid for 1 year, with a parent signature. You must then visit a County Treasurer’s office and pass a vision screening, pass a written knowledge test or Approved Safety course, and provide proper Identification.

The cost for a Motorcycle License for drivers under 21 years old is $20. Ages 21-65 years old is $12, valid for 6 years, and ages 64 and older cost $9, valid for 4 years. Military personnel in Kansas are permitted to waive the written and driving exams, and only need an MSF motorcycle safety course certificate.

Lane splitting is illegal in Kansas, although there are some nuances to lane splitting, filtering and lane sharing. Questions about lane splitting?

The most important is you must carry at least the Minimum Liability limits for Insurance and have a valid Motorcycle License while operating. Did you check all of those things off the list? Yes? Then you are free to enjoy the open road!
