Quick answer: Yes, you can get the exact coverage Drive Insurance customers buy in California, but in Alaska it’s sold under the Progressive name through independent agents. A Plus Insurance is an appointed Progressive independent agent serving Alaska. The Matanuska-Susitna Borough is one of our highest-volume Alaska markets.
Drive Insurance was launched by Progressive in September 2004 as a distinct brand for the independent insurance agency channel. From 2004 through 2007, Drive Insurance was sold by independent agents across most US states. In 2007, Progressive consolidated its brand strategy. Outside California, the Drive Insurance label was retired and policies were rebranded under the Progressive name.
California was the exception. Progressive West Insurance Company kept the Drive Insurance brand alive for products sold through California independent agents. In Alaska, like 48 other states, the same coverage is sold under the Progressive name.

Progressive Coverage in Alaska: What It Costs
Progressive is A Plus Insurance’s highest-volume carrier in 2026. Alaska is a meaningful market for us, with the Matanuska-Susitna Borough being one of our highest-volume Alaska areas.
Matanuska-Susitna Borough
$120-180
The Mat-Su Borough (Wasilla, Palmer, Big Lake) is our largest Alaska market by sold volume.
Anchorage area
$130-200
Anchorage’s higher traffic density and urban risk profile drives averages slightly above Mat-Su.
Fairbanks / Interior
$110-170
Lower traffic but higher comprehensive risk from animal strikes and severe winters.
Juneau / Southeast
$100-160
Juneau’s smaller road network and unique geography shapes underwriting.
Alaska-specific note: Alaska requires higher minimum coverage (50/100/25) than most states. Many AK drivers also carry higher comprehensive limits because of moose strikes, severe winter weather, and remote vehicle recovery costs.
Across these carriers, liability only averages $173.35 per month, while full coverage averages $675.75. The largest gap in this view is $945.49 for Progressive.
