Whether you want liability or full coverage, you are able to add an SR-22 to your policy (depending on the insurance company) for a small fee. If your vehicle is over 10 years of age, most only carry liability insurance because the cost of full coverage insurance on an older vehicle could be more than the value of the vehicle.

SR22 Insurance Montana: Need an SR-22 but no vehicle?

You’re required by the state to carry an SR-22 but don’t own a vehicle. Why would you need to carry insurance, if you don’t drive? If you don’t own a vehicle, you can purchase what’s called a Non Owners policy. This will cover you for the minimum liability limits that are required, and you can add the SR-22 filing to that policy. If you choose to drive, you will be covered for liability only, driving any vehicle as long as you do not own it. If you end up purchasing a vehicle, you will need to switch to a standard auto policy with that vehicle listed, as well as an SR-22 filing on that policy.
