All about Utah Liability Insurance

Minimum Liability Requirements for Utah:

$25,000 Bodily Injury per person, $65,000 Bodily Injury per accidents, $15,000 Property Damage per accident.

Does Everyone in Utah Need Liability Insurance?

As long as you reside in the State of Utah or any State in America, you will be required to have liability insurance. Though each State varies in its minimum requirement, Utah’s minimum requirement will be 25 / 65 / 15.

Although this is the minimum amount to carry for Utah liability insurance, that does not mean you should keep it there. You are more than welcome to increase the liability limits, along with adding additional coverages!

In most scenarios, an accident will be of a greater expense than the minimum liability required but Utah insurance laws. This means that the remaining expenses will need to be paid out of pocket after the liability costs have been exceeded.

Do make sure to always carry your insurance with you when operating your vehicle. Without proof of insurance, you can expect some pretty hard consequences such as paying a fine or even being charged with a misdemeanor.

Is Utah a No Fault State?

Utah operates under a modified no-fault auto insurance system, blending aspects of both traditional tort liability and no-fault insurance. In a no-fault system, each driver’s insurance company pays for their own medical expenses and other economic losses, regardless of who is at fault in an accident. However, Utah’s system still allows injured parties to pursue claims against at-fault drivers for non-economic damages exceeding a certain threshold. This threshold, known as the “verbal threshold,” requires that the injuries meet specific criteria such as death, permanent disability, or disfigurement. Understanding Utah’s unique approach to no-fault insurance is crucial for drivers to navigate the complexities of liability coverage effectively.

Is Utah A No-Fault State?

A question many people may have is: “Is Utah a no-fault State?”

The answer is yes. This means that regardless of who is responsible for causing the accident, both parties that were injured are able to seek payment for medical expenses up to $3,000 from their personal insurance carrier.

The way individuals can receive medical payments up to $3,000 is by having Personal Injury Protection (PIP).

Utah does require every individual to have Personal Injury Protection insurance along with Utah liability insurance!
