To find the cheapest car insurance providers in Texas, the survey analyzed car insurance quotes from over thirty companies for a range of married and single drivers. The companies were then ranked according to the average quote from each company for auto insurance in nearly 300 different cities.
The survey found that, overall, the six cheapest insurance companies in Texas were; USAA, Foremost County Mutual, Farmers Auto, GEICO, and AAA Texas. The average quoted for the cheapest company, USAA was $497, and the average for the least cheap of the top six, AAA Texas, was $693. The overall average of all car insurance companies in Texas was $885.
It should be noted that, although USAA had the lowest average quotes, the company only provides auto insurance for members of the armed forces and their families. Also, to buy a policy from AAA Texas, you need to be a member of the American Automobile Association (AAA).
The average rates across all 293 cities that were included in the survey were based on combinations of different types of drivers. They included both married and single drivers from the age of 30 to 65 years old. It included people with no traffic violations, a single speeding ticket within the last three years, and people with one accident on their record that was their own fault. The survey also covered people with good credit scores and those with less than perfect credit scores.
The cheapest insurance quotes in Texas, as we mentioned above, were; USAA, Foremost County Mutual, Farmers Auto Insurance Company, GEICO, and AAA Texas, with the cheapest car insurance premium being $497 from USAA.
At the other end of the scale, the survey found that the three most expensive auto insurance companies in Texas were; National General Insurance Company, at $1,364, Encompass Indemnity Company, at $1,681, and Esurance Insurance Company, at $1,954.

Houston came out of the survey as one of the most expensive cities in Texas to insure a vehicle. The survey showed, though, that you can still save significantly on the average premium of $1,206. The data used for this report was compiled from data provided by the Texas Department of Insurance for drivers aged 30 to 60 years old with varying driving histories and personal backgrounds. Drivers included in the survey either had a clean driving record or a single speeding ticket or a single accident on their record and credit ratings below or above average.
The car insurance premiums were based on a 2.5 liter/4 cylinder engine 2012 Toyota Camry four-door sedan, and the minimum auto liability required in Texas, which is $30,000 per individual, up to a maximum amount of $60,000 per single accident, for personal injury liability, and $25,000 of property damage liability.
