Should You Opt for a Full Coverage Policy to Protect Your Auto?

Full Coverage is essentially adding Comprehensive and Collision to your policy. You’ll need to decide on a deductible, in other words an amount you will pay for damages to your auto before your policy kicks in for the rest up to the value of your vehicle.

So if your auto were damaged with repairs costing $1,500 and you chose a full coverage deductible of $1,000. Than you’d pay $1,000 of the damage and your policy will kick in for the remaining $500 worth of damage. So is it worth it?

FOR EXAMPLE

Dylan and Melissa purchase an old convertible Volkswagen Beetle for the purposes of playing punch bug in Myrtle Beach South Carolina. They bought it cash for $2,000! If they chose a full coverage deductible of $1,500 for collision and damages to their auto is $2,000….. was it worth it to get Full Coverage? The vehicle is totaled at that point and the cost of paying the Full Coverage premium not be prudent.

FULL COVERAGE INSURANCE SOUTH CAROLINA BEST RATES

If you have purchased a new vehicle and have a lien out on it, most the time the lienholder will require you cover full coverage. Every company is different, in where they want you to carry a $500 deductible or $1000 deductible. When you have full coverage that comes with comprehensive and collision coverage. Check out what each of those cover for you. It is important to consider which coverages you want to pay for when looking at your South Carolina Insurance options.

Dylan and Melissa mentioned earlier may not want Full Coverage for their recreational vehicle, the Beetle. They may opt for this coverage for his new work truck costing $42,000.

Insurance South Carolina Tips

  1. Understand South Carolina Insurance Requirements: Know the minimum insurance requirements for auto insurance in South Carolina. This includes liability coverage for bodily injury and property damage.
  2. Comparison Shop: Just like in Michigan, insurance rates can vary significantly between companies in South Carolina. Compare quotes from multiple insurers to find the best coverage at the most competitive rate.
  3. Consider Additional Coverage: While meeting the minimum requirements is essential, consider additional coverage options such as comprehensive and collision coverage for auto insurance, or additional coverage for homeowners insurance to protect against specific risks like flooding.
  4. Bundle Policies: Bundling your insurance policies, such as combining auto and home insurance, can often lead to discounts with insurers. Check with your provider to see if bundling is an option for you.
  5. Maintain a Good Credit Score: In South Carolina, as in many states, your credit score can impact your insurance premiums. Maintain good credit to potentially qualify for lower rates.
  6. Drive Safely: Just like anywhere else, maintaining a clean driving record can help keep your auto insurance rates down. Avoid accidents and traffic violations whenever possible.
  7. Ask About Discounts: Inquire about any available discounts, such as safe driver discounts, good student discounts, or discounts for security features on your home. Taking advantage of these can help reduce your premiums.
  8. Review Your Policy Regularly: Life changes, and so do your insurance needs. Review your policies annually to ensure they still meet your needs and adjust coverage as necessary.
  9. Consider an Umbrella Policy: If you have significant assets to protect, consider adding an umbrella policy to provide additional liability coverage beyond what your auto or home insurance policies offer.
  10. Work with a Reputable Agent: A knowledgeable insurance agent can help you navigate the complexities of insurance and find the right coverage for your needs. Choose an agent or broker with a good reputation and solid customer service.
